Retiring? Why Niagara-on-the-Lake may be the Perfect Fit For You

April 21, 2017

You’re retired, or close to it, and you want to find somewhere new to live for a change of pace.  With so many places to choose from, what’s the right destination for you to settle down in? If you’ve never thought of living in Niagara-on-the-Lake, read on for why it is an ideal location for you and your family.

Large Senior Population – According to the 2011 census, people ages 65 and older made up for more than a quarter of the total population in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Although it’s nice to be around younger folks to remind us of our youth, it’s also great to be around like-minded individuals who understand us. Not only that, it means more new friends to make that will take part in experiences our younger counterparts might not be so enthusiastic to.

Local Attractions – Niagara-on-the-Lake is teeming with activities to keep its residents and visitors alike entertained. As a region brimming with historical significance, there’s a whole slew of culture to be absorbed and explored in this quaint little town. With bounties of greenery and waterfront escapes, there are over 200 scenic biking and hiking trails in the Niagara region alone, some of which run along the Niagara escarpment. Biking or hiking not your thing? Why don’t you visit the infamous Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club, the oldest location in North America. With so many options available for exercise and exploring the town, one would surely work up quite the appetite. Luckily for residents, Niagara-on-the-Lake is dotted with restaurants for indulging in local cuisine. Need something to wash it all down? Try one of the 20 some wineries located in Niagara-on-the-Lake alone.

Short Distance to the US and Toronto. If the bounty of peace and quiet offered from Niagara-on-the-Lake is not always what you wanted, fear not. If you miss the hustle and bustle of the city life, than Niagara-on-the-Lake’s proximity to its urban counterparts is just for you. Niagara-on-the-Lake is a hop, skip, and a jump away from the US and Toronto, only a ninety-minute drive to Toronto, a fifty-minute drive to Buffalo, and a thirty-minute drive to the US border at Niagara Falls. When living here, visiting family and friends, or going on shopping trips in the urban core is closer than you think

Types of Homes Available. Whether it’s that quaint little cozy nest on the corner of the street with the red brick finish or the large rustic estate on a two-acre plot, there’s a house that fits everyone’s style. Niagara-on-the-Lake is one of the few places where such a wide variety of homes can be found within proximity of one another. Additionally, with the housing prices of Niagara-on-the-lake steadily increasing year-by-year, investing in a home here would pay off in the long run with the values in the area constantly on the rise.

We know how choosing a location to settle down in for the rest of your days can be a daunting task, you’d be surprised at how many viable options you have. Niagara-on-the-Lake is one of the best options for retirement, not only for its rich culture but for its activity and entertainment as well.
